In the role of Head of Health, Safety & Environment you’ll be based at our main Waterfront, Huddersfield campus but work across all our sites in Huddersfield and Dewsbury. Your principal duties are to be responsible for leading excellence in the college approach to Health, Safety and the Environment
Key responsibilities of the role are:
- To provide effective strategic management and supervision, in order to develop and implement policies, procedures and processes and ensure legislative compliance standards are met.
- To implement and manage the Major Incident & Business Continuity Plan and ensure the college is prepared to implement the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill (Martyn’s Law).
- To successfully promote a culture of safety awareness across all college sites by working in partnership with managers and staff to raise awareness and ownership of health, safety and environmental matters and risks.
- Monitor and report on sustainability performance and progress on our Sustainability Roadmap.
- Lead cross college sustainability initiatives, including reducing waste, improving energy efficiency, and promoting sustainable practices.
Ideally, you’ll hold a relevant Health & Safety Qualification and are able to demonstrate experience of managing environmental sustainability. You should have a detailed knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation and its application in a large complex organisation. Experience of establishing effective systems and procedures for safety management and monitoring, inspection and auditing and completing accident investigations.
It’s important that you have strong communication skills, with demonstrated problem-solving skills and demonstrate our College values of Kindness, Unity and Excellence in your role.
