In the role of Visual Impairment Support you’ll predominantly be based at Waterfront and your focus will be on providing exceptional student support across the college to students with a visual impairment ensuring that they have a successful experience as they transition from school, into, through and out of college to positive destinations.  

 

Your key responsibilities will be to provide high quality support, working with the SENDCO for VI to ensure appropriate plans and strategies are in place, provide interventions identified from available data, oversee the EHCP process including annual reviews and ensure students feel valued and well supported in appropriate ways for preparation for adulthood.    

 

Ideally, you’ll have a Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (e.g. GCSE English and Maths at grade A*-C) a Level 3 qualification in supporting students with a visual impairment (or be able to prove equivalent ability) and demonstrate previous experience of working with young people with Visual Impairment and additional SEND in an educational capacity. Have in-depth knowledge of EHCP’s, the SEND Code of Practice and support strategies.  It’s important that you’re able to communicate effectively, engage with young people and be able to use your own judgement and initiative in complex situations leading to successful outcomes, and demonstrate our College values of Kindness, Unity and Excellence in your role.
