About the Role
As a SEND Maths and English Teaching Assistant, you will be based at our Waterfront and Pioneer centres, working closely with adult learners and apprentices with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to improve their literacy and numeracy skills.
What you will do
- Plan, prepare and deliver group learning activities, both within and outside the classroom, with input from tutors.
- Identify individual SEND needs through initial assessments.
- Complete inclusion plans for others to follow.
- Support a whole-college approach to SEND, working collaboratively across departments.
- Encourage high aspirations among learners and support them through periods of change.
What do you need?
- Minimum of a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.
- Ability to communicate effectively with learners, tutors and colleagues.
- Ability to manage change and work collaboratively across the college.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
- Flexibility to work within a 38-week curriculum year and across classroom delivery times of 8.30am–9.00pm.
It would be great to have
- A recognised Teaching Assistant qualification, or willingness to work towards one.
- Previous experience working in a post-16 environment with learners with additional learning needs.
